Storm photography is one of the most challenging genres of photography. One has to be eminent with readiness, timing, planning and improvising other than the basic photography skills. The commitment is also a must and above all, he or she has to save their life itself in a very challenging and dangerous situation.
Mike Olbinski, a well-known storm photographer created the annual Storm Photos of the Year contest to recognize the hard work of storm photographers and make the public more aware of storm photography. The offcial website says,
“Our purpose in creating Storm Photos of the Year, or what we affectionately call “The Stormys”, is to reward incredible storm photographers around the globe for their hard work every year with a photography contest made specifically for them! From Australia to Italy to Canada to Argentina to the United States and a million other places, storm photographers are capturing astounding images that deserve to be recognized”.
