For the rare opportunity to photograph Japan’s beautiful plum trees blossom, most of us would have to travel hundreds, thousands, and maybe tens of thousands of kilometres. But for Hidenobu Suzuki, all it takes is stepping outside his house. And he is kind enough to share that beauty with all of us with his beautiful photographs.
Streets carpeted with pink petals, forests blanketed in “sakura snow,” and lines of luscious cherry trees are all captured in his magnificent photographs. However, the annual pink phenomenon does not last long. The delicate flowers of cherry blossom trees barely last a week or two after they begin to bloom before the petals fall to the ground. The photographer seems to be quick enough to record the beauty before it is gone.

Warmer temperatures, brighter skies, and fresh green buds herald the arrival of spring. For Japanese residents, the coming of spring also means the start of cherry blossom season. In Japan, Sakura, or cherry blossoms, are considered a cultural icon, valued for their delicate pink beauty and short existence. Each spring, they bloom in waves across the Japanese islands, attracting hundreds of tourists, photographers, and locals.
The centuries-old practice of hanami, or small parties and picnics held outside to savour the beauty of the cherry blossoms, is associated with cherry blossom season. People congregate beneath cherry blossom trees to eat, drink, play music, and have a good time while admiring the multitude of delicate pink and white petals fluttering in the branches above them.
